Structures parentales
Les sociétés punu reposent sur les diverses structures parentales: Ifumba ou Ibandu représentent le clan. Dibure: le lignange, et modji : le segment du lignage.
Les clans punu sont au nombres de 11: Bujala, Bumueli, Ilabu, Mitiumba (mizimba), dikande, dibambe-kadi, Badumbi, dijabe, Mitsumba (mizumba), Ndingi, Bagambu, Bavele.
Les punu pensent que la descendance se transmet par la femme, aussi la venue d'une femme est souvent salué par le plus grand enthousiasme, un proverbe dit:
"Mugetu Ilongu I buyi Ifumbu, dibala Yisiemu I bayisi"
