African writers and philosophers attempt to Africanise knowledge and thought. To do so, as Mudimbe (1988) points out in The Invention of Africa, “they have to first think about the form, the content, and the style of „Africanising‟ knowledge” and how to integrate “traditional systems of thought and their possible relation to the normative genre of knowledge” (x). After all, these beliefs help us to understand something about the real Africa.
